Spotlight on 'The Show' at Leon & Lulu

Quirky Clawson shop Leon & Lulu opened up in a big old roller rink 10 years ago. Now, it’s expanded into the vintage movie theater next door. The Show, as the new business is called, is filled with fun finds just in time for the holidays.

“The Show was built in 1941, same as the roller rink,” says owner Mary Liz Curtin. “By the time we bought it, it was pretty sad.” But not anymore. The building is restored, complete with its twinkling marquee.

The independent lifestyle store, known for unique decor, attire, gifts and more, has expanded its offerings too, now occupying a sprawling 22,800 square feet.

“There are tons of Michigan-made foods,” says Curtin. “Like Dave’s Sweet Tooth toffee.” It also has a fun selection of locally made greeting cards. And kids will appreciate The Show’s wide variety of popular Jellycat plush toys.

“Sometime in the next couple of months, we want to teach a letter-writing class,” Curtin adds. “Teach kids how exciting it is to get a physical letter or card.” Keep an eye on Leon & Lulu’s website for details.

You’ll also find plenty of mitten-shaped goodies – alongside a rusty retro Chevy truck (it’s very cool – but for display only). Coming soon: The Three Cats Café, which will serve up hot beverages to keep you toasty this winter.
