3 things to know before heading to Zoo Boo at the Detroit Zoo

Designed with young children in mind, the popular family-friendly Zoo Boo at the Detroit Zoo is is returning this October.

The event offers opportunities to trick-or-treat, enjoy live entertainment, and take part in seasonal activities.

Here are three things to know if you go:

1. Dates, times and admission for Zoo Boo

Zoo Boo will be held across four weekends in October: Oct. 4–5, 10–12, 17–19, and 24–26. The Zoo will open for daytime admission from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with Zoo Boo festivities taking place in the evening from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $19 for general admission when purchased online, with discounted daytime rates for youth and seniors.

Children under 2 are free, and parking is $8 per vehicle for non-members. Families are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to secure their preferred date

2. Family-friendly fun without the scares

Zoo Boo is designed to be festive rather than frightening, making it a perfect event for toddlers through late elementary schoolers. Families can expect trick-or-treat stations, strolling entertainment, Halloween face painting, themed photo opportunities and seasonal displays throughout the zoo grounds.

Guests will also be able to enjoy animal habitats and other attractions during the event, offering the best of the Zoo alongside the Halloween experience.

3. Tips to make the most of your visit

Costumes are encouraged for kids and parents alike, and the zoo’s decorated backdrops make for memorable family photos. Arriving early can help families enjoy the trick-or-treat trail before it gets crowded, and planning for parking is a good idea given the event’s popularity.
