Kenneth D. Kirkum Memorial Park, a beautiful community space in Mount Clemens, where the whole family can have fun all day long.

Formerly known as Wilson park, Kenneth D. Kirkum Memorial Park is in Mount Clemens near Woodrow Wilson School. Renamed in honor of Mount Clemens resident and Vietnam War veteran Kenneth D. Kirkum following his passing in 2009, the park is a delightful space for the surrounding community, offering multiple fun amenities.

Things to do at Kenneth D. Kirkum Memorial Park

The park is home to two different play areas. According to Recreation Director Karl Hayes, the bigger playground for older children includes slides, swings and climbing structures, while the smaller playscape for toddlers has a slide, a teeter totter, educational panels and other toddler-friendly elements.

Other amenities available at the park include a backstop for playing baseball and kickball, a soccer field that becomes an ice skating rink in winter, plenty of benches and picnic tables and a Little Free Library. 

Visitors can also check out the nearby Wilson Gym, which is a hub for multiple sports programs and a hosting venue that people can rent for social events.

Playground rules:

Park rules can vary by individual park, have occasional exceptions with permission from the City Council or be changed at any time. According to the Mount Clemens Code of Ordinances, the following rules apply to all parks within the city.

  • The parks are for social and recreational events only, unless permission for other uses is given by the City Commission.
  • Vandalism of any kind, graffiti art, littering, camping, unauthorized commercial activities, unauthorized organized events, the setting of fires, use or possession of firearms, explosives, fireworks and other weapons, including paintball guns, possession and consumption of drugs and alcohol, public intoxication, harming of wildlife, disruption of the peace, inappropriate behavior, excessive noise and noise-making equipment, riding horses or other animals, reckless driving, overnight parking, using the bathroom outside of bathroom facilities and entering the park outside of designated park hours are all prohibited within Mount Clemens parks.
  • Cycling, rollerskating, rollerblading and driving or parking motorized vehicles must be done only within designated areas or on designated surfaces within the parks, unless a vehicle is meant for a handicapped person or is authorized by the City.
  • For all parks other than Mount Clemens Dog Park, pets must remain on a leash with a maximum length of six feet.
  • Trailers and loading vehicles are not allowed in the parks without permission from the City.
