Puppy Party Cake

The dog days of summer are here. So how ’bout something special for your pup? After all, Fido can safely enjoy a taste of stuff your kids love, too – like peanut butter and bananas. Those are ingredients you’ll find in this yummy Dog Cake, a recipe fresh from the Bow Wow Bake Shoppe in Grosse Pointe Woods.

“I go for content,” says owner Lisa Bardy. “You want your treats to taste good” – and of course, she adds, be healthy for Spot. Her store’s menu is a balance of both. Like the Frosted Bone Cookies, with a yogurt coating. And Brownie Bites, which have bananas and honey. “Just like we would eat,” Bardy says, “minus the sweet, sweet stuff.” In fact, they please people palettes, too: Bow Wow Frosted Donuts, topped with a chocolate-alternative carob-candy, are a customer fave!

It meets all the key standards, from the Association of American Feed Control Officials – to Nala, Bardy’s 1-year-old Carolina-mix rescue dog. She even varies up the flour (wheat, flour, brown-rice) to accommodate for allergies. All the ingredients are listed right on the bag.

As with humans, moderation is key.
