Mermaid season is upon us. With the premiere of Disney’s new live-action adaptation, more kids than ever are interested in mermaids. We did some of the tail-work for you and found the best mermaid-related events that metro Detroit has to offer.
Wherever the tide takes you this summer, we know that if it involves mermaids, then there will certainly be magic.
The Little Mermaid Quest: A Treasure Hunt

Grab a group of friends and dress up as your favorite characters from the movie. Then head to the D, but first download The Little Mermaid Quest App. The app provides you with clues taken from the movie and an interactive map. Get all the clues right, and a treasure will await you! Be quick, though; these tickets are selling fast.
The Little Mermaid: A Musical
- Date: June 29-July 8
- Cost: $18+/students, $20-43/adults
The Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater is offering a Broadway-inspired rendition of “The Little Mermaid.” It is sure to be a colorful, engaging show that will make you feel a part of Ariel’s world.
Motor City’s Very Own Mermaids
You can rent a mermaid to entertain your budding merpeople! Whether your party is in the water or on dry land, a Motor City Mermaid will happily provide a customized experience for you. Visit the website to select your mermaid, and even your mermaid’s look and props. Your mermaid will interact with your party guests through music and story. The guests will never forget this magical experience
A Sleepover: Mesmeric Mermaids
Sweet Slumberzz, a slumber party business, comes to your house to create a sleepover experience that feels like it came right out of the movies. Of course, one of the themes is Mesmeric Mermaids. Your merchildren can sleep in a mermaid-tail tent with plenty of stuffed, under-the-sea creatures to keep them company through the night. The party also includes a few fun crafts and snacks that fit the theme perfectly.
Mermaid Academy

If you have a little mermaid or merman at home, surprise them with this adorable class. The academy run by Laurel’s Princess Parties sells out super quickly, so check back in the winter about ticket opening dates. The cost, set at $85 in 2023, includes a tail rental, sing-alongs, races and real-life mermaids to entertain. You can even purchase a tail to take home!
