ComiqueCon Celebrates Phenomenal Women in Comics

ComiqueCon has come to rescue the image of women in the comic book industry from the limitations of bustiers and latex suits. This one-day festival, happening on Nov. 7, 2015 and hosted at the Arab American National Museum, invites fans to celebrate female comic creators including authors, illustrators, publishers and more.

Expand your child’s mind beyond the male-dominated world of comics and bring them along to learn about influential women in the industry at this event, presented by Green Brain Comics in Dearborn. There will be panel discussions about Arab American women’s presence in comics, paving your way to the industry, tips on writing great comics and more. Some of the main stage presenters include Lelia Abdelrazaq, graphics artist and author of Baddawi; Nancy Collins, author of Vampirella; and Mairghread Scott, author of various works for Transformers, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Bravest Warriors.

Plus, find plenty of fun and engaging activities for kids to participate in, like the Make Your Own Mini Comic! workshop and a Lumberjanes Coloring Party. Don’t forget to come dressed as your favorite comic book hero or heroine. The grand-prize winner will receive a number of awesome accolades.

Parents and attendees older than 18 can enjoy the indie folk music of Sarah Donner, as well as classic rock tunes played by the The Sarah Sherrard Band, as the musicians perform at the reception, running 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. for an additional $5.

Admission to ComiqueCon is $10 for general, or $25 for VIP tickets. Children 12 and under get in free.
