Metro Parent’s Living with Autism Workshop

Parents and professionals are invited to join Metro Parent and Henry Ford Health System for the 11th annual Living with Autism conference on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Detroit Marriott Troy.

When you have a child with autism, every resource and insight is a piece of the puzzle. Metro Parent knows this. That’s why Metro Parent and Henry Ford Health System host the Living With Autism Workshop. It’s a hugely popular – and inspiring – day-long event.

This year, we are proud to announce Ron and Owen Suskind, as well as Ron Fournier, as the keynote speakers for our 11th annual Living with Autism conference 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Detroit Marriott Troy (registration and continental breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m.). It is our continued pleasure to be the region’s premier autism workshop, providing insight and advice from those working, coping and thriving with autism.

Please note: This event was rescheduled from its original date of April 27, 2018.

About our keynote speakers:

Pulitzer-winning journalist Ron Suskind’s work demonstrates his strong passion for giving a voice to the voiceless. Owen Suskind, Ron’s youngest son, is one of those voices – and the protagonist of Ron’s book, Life, Animated: A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes and Autism. Also adapted into the Academy Award-nominated documentary Life, Animated, this book tells Owen’s story of being diagnosed with autism and finding a way to reengage with the world around him. Ron and his family pioneered a now widely acknowledged method of emulative communication known as Affinity Therapy.

Ron Fournier’s son, Tyler, has Asperger’s syndrome. Ron, a Detroit-native editor and publisher, will speak about what he’s learned from his son while writing his book, Love That Boy: What Two Presidents, Eight Road Trips and My Son Taught Me About a Parent’s Expectations.
