A Danish comedian caught some extra attention recently with a photo he posted of himself – naked – in the tub with his 2-year-old daughter, Yahoo Parenting reports.
Torben Chris, a comedian whose show Jydelogik questions the prude attitudes toward nudity in Denmark, shared the bath time image on his Facebook page and it quickly went viral – mostly with support from fellow parents, but not without backlash.
Dad ended up taking the photo down, but responded to the public with a four-minute video he posted on his Facebook page.
Chris’ video focused more on the positive reactions he got from people, but he did address the “weird headlines” and those individuals who found the image offensive.
“Nobody should find these pictures offensive; it’s a natural thing to be naked with your children,” he says. “It’s a natural thing to be naked period. You’re born that way,” he says in the video, Yahoo Parenting reports.
I have to admit, when I first saw this picture, it sort of threw me – and then I realized I was being a typical uptight American. There’s no need to sexualize this image. Just because he’s in the bathtub with his daughter doesn’t mean he’s a pedophile.
Many commenters agree. On the Yahoo Parenting article, commenter J says, “Times have changed. Growing up in a larger family, with one bathroom, there was no room for modesty and no one thought anything of it. As we got older, privacy was respected the best it could. No one was a deviant; there was no thought of seeing your sibling naked once in a while. It was what it was. We swam naked in a pond for heaven’s sake and no one became a pedophile. I think today there is a problem separating deviance from normal and as with most things, we go to extremes. Shame on all of you.”
Still, commenter Adela disagrees: “Guy is a fracking idiot, and the photo is gross.”
I don’t think it’s gross, but I do think Chris needs to be more careful with what he posts.
