Super Spark Special Needs Awareness Weeks at the Michigan Science Center

Kids learn in diverse ways. And, during its Super Spark Special Needs Awareness Weeks, the Michigan Science Center is celebrating that in a fun, interactive environment.

Returning for a second year, the event kicks off Sept. 23, 2015 and runs Wednesdays-Sundays for four weeks, till Oct. 18, 2015. Each week focuses on a different special need, from hearing and visual impairment to mobility and sensory challenges.

Jennifer Kanyo, MiSci’s STEM resource coordinator, says the program promotes awareness for the disabilities. “These weeks are really a celebration to look at all the different ways children and adults learn about the world around them.”

Workshops and resources are here too, hosted by Michigan Hands and Voices, based in Lansing, Penrickton Center for Blind Children of Taylor and other local organizations. The event sponsor is Newman’s Own.

“We will continue to have sensory friendly days throughout the year,” Kanyo adds. “Check our website for upcoming events as the year goes on.”
