S.T.E.A.M.y Showcase at Eastern Market

Future engineers, computer programmers, chemists and more are invited to the Detroit Public Schools Community District S.T.E.A.M.y Showcase at Eastern Market on Sunday, April 2, 2017.

The free event, which takes place from noon until 3 p.m. in Shed 3, gives students and their families the chance to learn more about college and career pathways, meet with representatives from every DPSCD school and find out more about the district’s STEAM offerings.

“It’s a great way for parents to see what is actually happening in DPSCD right now and to interact with people face-to-face,” says Alycia Meriweather, Interim Superintendent at DPSCD.

Families will learn about the district’s new tuition-free Montessori classrooms, foreign language immersion, career technical education and so much more. Plus, there’s fun for the kids, too, including pony rides, a petting zoo and face painting.

Whether your kids are enrolled in DPSCD or you’re interested in the district, Meriweather says this event is a must for all families.

“If you have not been in a DPSCD school lately, you really don’t know what we’re doing,” she says. “We have an amazing team that’s working extremely hard to move this district.”

DPSCD families who bring friends along could win a membership to the Michigan Science Center, Keep Growing Detroit Family Gardens or enrollment in a S.T.E.A.M. summer camp.

Don’t miss this free event in Shed 3 of Eastern Market, located at 2934 Russell St. in Detroit.
