Local Tween Receives President’s Environmental Youth Award

This sixth-grader from Utica Community Schools was recognized for her efforts as an amphibian advocate.

Local student Trinity Favazza, 11, was recently recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with a 2018 President’s Environmental Youth Award – making her one of just 10 students across the country to receive the honor.

The sixth-grader at Utica Community Schools – who traveled to D.C. in September for the award ceremony – was recognized for her efforts to protect local wetlands and raise awareness for amphibian conservation. She has served as Mayor of Amphibiville at the Detroit Zoo and collected frog field data for FrogWatch USA.

Trinity says she feels “super blessed” to be involved with amphibian conservation and enjoys sharing about conservation with her classmates and on social media. “I love working to make environments for amphibians better places for them to live,” she says. “I look forward to a frogtastic future where all amphibians live in safe and clean wetlands!”
