Education Town Hall Offers Expert Panels on School Success in 2020

Watch a town hall with WDET, ChalkBeat and Metro Parent to get expert advice on helping your kids manage the unprecedented 2020 school year.

Back-to-school in 2020-21 is anything but business as usual. That’s why Metro Parent, WDET and ChalkBeat joined forces and presented and virtual Education Town Hall in August. Our goal: to help southeast Michigan parents navigate what might be the toughest school years of their lifetime.

In this town hall, experts from the Michigan PTA, United Way for Southeastern Michigan, Michigan Alliance for Special Education and other organizations came together with local teachers and school leaders to answer parents’ most burning questions about what is going to happen this school year.

Over the course of two hours, these experts gathered on Zoom to discuss everything from what parents who keep their kids home should actually be doing with their kids and how to make a pandemic pod to what happens if a teacher gets sick, how to help kids manage school stress and much more.

They offered insight and resources that left Julia Elliott, Metro Parent’s editor-in-chief and a moderator for the second half of the virtual event, impressed and hopeful for parents struggling to educate their kids during the coronavirus pandemic.

If you missed the event, you can re-watch it below, and feel free to reach out to us with your questions via the WDET help desk on the Doing Our Best: Parenting in the age of COVID Facebook page, so we can continue to provide you the information you need.
