Thinking of Tinder? Think again. Babyname, an app designed to making choosing a name for your little one easier, uses the tried-and-true method of swiping left or right and allows you to “match” with your partner’s picks.
Here’s how it works: You both download the app and connect with one another, then swipe. Once you both say, “yes” to a name, the app takes the name and puts it on a separate sheet for easy viewing.
Information on the origins of names, their meanings and in which countries they are most popular is also included in the app. The basic version is free, but there are add-ons priced at 99 cents each, including filters like celebrities, famous athletes, country of origin and hipster.
The app’s tagline, “Finding a name for your baby can be as fun as making it,” might be a bit of a stretch, but it is entertaining. Matching on a name with your partner is exciting, since you’re one step closer to choosing the perfect moniker for your child.
Of course, if you’re a fan of names like John, Chris and Alex, while your partner is fond of Hugo, Holden and Horatio, you might have a bit of a challenge.
Twitter user Anna Campa wrote, “Brian Campa and I are using the Babyname app which is like Tinder for baby names. We haven’t matched ONCE #TheStruggleIsReal.”
Others find think the app is a useful and fun tool in narrowing down the search, and say they’ve been using the app with sisters, friends and mothers instead of partners.
