Foodtruck Cafe Opens in Berkley

Note: Foodtruck Cafe is now closed.

Food trucks are hot. And now, the Foodtruck Cafe is bringing the trend indoors at its new Berkley digs on Woodward Avenue.

This novel, more-stationary spin on the hip restaurants-on-wheels features three mini storefronts that mimic food trucks: the Sideshow Sandwich Emporium, Nacho Ordinary Nacho and Airstream Espresso.

The interior is complete with picnic tables and painted sewer covers to give the kid-friendly eatery an extra outdoor feel.

“I always liked the food truck concept,” says co-owner Kerry Johnson – also one of the gurus behind The Cupcake Station, the popular local sweets chain. Part of his inspiration was to give people the opportunity to get food truck-style grub year ’round.

Get your food-truck fix with an “El Nacho Mejor,” featuring nacho chips, black beans, pico de gallo and jalapeno slices from Nacho Ordinary Nacho. Or sink your teeth into “The Flying Pig,” a sandwich from Sideshow Sandwich Emporium featuring pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, French-fried onions and barbecue sauce on an onion roll. Then, mom and dad can grab a signature drink from Airstream Espresso – like a Banana Flip or Toasted S’more.

The Foodtruck Cafe offers a menu geared towards your wee ones, featuring basics like PB&J, plus mini pulled-pork sliders, kid-size quesadillas and much more.
