Love Child Boutique in Royal Oak

Wooden, patent leather, red clogs for kids? That's not something you can find at your neighborhood Target or even your destination Stride Rite. But at Love Child in Royal Oak, that kind of dandy, distinct fashion item is de rigueur.

This high-end boutique offers a variety of creative pieces that just might inspire your kids to start dressing themselves more often, and will certainly help them stand out from the crowd.

Love Child

From babies to tweens, Love Child offers apparel with an urban feel and a hint of sophistication for a wide range of ages, appealing to boys and girls.

Founded by three women, Lauren Slutsky, Michelle Bone and Erica Hunt (all mothers of two) they know what kids like to wear and moms like to buy.

"We pride ourselves in finding pieces that no one else has," says Bone, who describes Love Child's aesthetic as "fun and funky." When was the last time you saw knitted, chunky animal hats, retro '80s band T-shirts for babies, or furry vests for winter warmth? Those red clogs, designed by Sven, come in swatches of different colors and fabrics, offering a plethora of choices to keep any kid's feet happy and chic.

The store stocks such popular boutique brands as Joah Love, Wes and Willy, Tailgate, Vintage Havana, Joes Kids and Appaman.

The boutique prides itself on providing stellar customer relations, too. The owners are happy to help parents and kids find the right combination of clothes to reflect their individual style.

But there is more to Love Child then trendy clothing. Frog blankies, elephant book ends and other kids accessories make cool gifts. And the store promotes a giving philosophy as well. Love Child donates a percentage of their sales every year to The Friendship Circle of Michigan, a nonprofit organization that provides programs to families of individuals with special needs.

"It's a great organization. We think it's wonderful what they do and it's important to give back," says Bone.
