Michigan’s Park and Read program is back full swing – just in time for July, which is Parks and Recreation month. How’s it work? If you have a Michigan library card, you can check out a one-day pass into any state park or recreation area in lieu of a daily motor vehicle permit. That’s a $6 saving!
Heading on a family vacation? All 98 state parks accept the pass. Of those, 71 offer hammocks. That includes three here in southeast Michigan: Dodge #4 in Waterford, Maybury State Park in Northville, and the Highland State Recreation Area. You can also explore William G. Milliken park in Detroit.
Passes are valid for seven days from checkout and can be use for one day at any of Michigan State Park (one’s always a within a half hour!). The program runs till Oct. 1, 2011. testing testing
