Old-Fashioned Christmas at Van Hoosen Farm in Rochester Hills

Families are invited to visit the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm on Dec. 19, 2015 for holiday fun that will take you back to days of old.

“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire” isn’t just a holiday song lyric. It’s also what you’ll find this month at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm as part of its Old-Fashioned Christmas event.

The event, held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, invites families to experience the joys of old-fashioned holiday fun with music, crafts, snacks (including chestnuts!), theater groups and more.

Start at the museum’s 1927 Dairy Barn for the All Aboard! model train display and then bundle up for a wagon ride to check out all of the museum’s other historic buildings. Other museum buildings include the Van Hoosen Farmhouse, the 1850 Red House, the Milk House, the Calf Barn and many more.

The mission of the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm is to interpret, preserve and collect “the history of the greater Rochester area for present and future generations.” The 16-acre museum was home to the Taylor and Van Hoosen families, who date back to 1823.

Tickets for the Old-Fashioned Christmas event are priced at $4 for museum members, $7 for nonmembers and $10 on the day of the event. Kids ages 2 and younger get in free.
