About The Roeper School

The Roeper School is an independent, co-educational day school for gifted students, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, with campuses in Bloomfield Hills (pre-K through fifth grade) and in Birmingham (grades six-12).

Since 1941, it has focused on serving gifted students with a variety of talents.

“At Roeper, we care deeply about the needs of the whole child; we understand the importance of these formative years, and nurture and challenge children at every stage and grade,” says David H. Feldman, head of school.

Roeper provides a solid educational background in all academic disciplines with a college preparatory framework as well as advanced placement classes. Roeper’s graduates pursue higher education and are accepted at highly selective colleges and universities.

Beyond college, Roeper prepares students for life. Teachers help students develop an awareness of and an appreciation for their own unique identity and help them develop a sense of the contributions and values of all people. Respect, trust, fairness and integrity are the core values that direct each child’s development. Decision-making, problem-solving, social responsibility and leadership are taught throughout the school’s curriculum.

The school also places a premium in teaching its students to be in charge of their own learning process.

Roeper alum Jeff Deutsch (class of 1994) commented on how this has helped in his professional life as an entrepreneur.

“I work from home. I have the freedom to live in a nice environment, work when I want, and spend lots of time with my family. And I wouldn’t have any of it without Roeper, because I would have never figured out how to succeed under the heavy burden of freedom,” Deutch shared in an online testimonial.

Roeper students receive local and national recognition on a regular basis for a variety of academic, creative and athletic pursuits. There is no single common area of excellence Roeper students share – instead, what characterizes them is their need to find meaning and significance in their daily lives. The Roeper School helps create effective, committed, value-oriented learners, prepared for the changes and challenges of tomorrow’s world.

Beyond education of gifted students, Roeper contributes scholarship to the field of gifted education. The school publishes the Roeper Review, an internationally recognized quarterly journal on gifted education.
