Rock Your Socks on World Down Syndrome Day

Find out why we wear mix-matched socks on World Down Syndrome Day and get advice on how kids can better interact with people who have Down syndrome.

We all strive to raise kids with empathy. We want them to understand what it is like to put themselves in someone else’s shoes. How about putting themselves in someone else’s socks?

On March 21, have everyone in your family pull out their most colorful socks — mismatching spunky socks are so IN! — to celebrate kids with Down syndrome. World Down Syndrome Day is a Sunday this year. Use the time to talk with your kids about the special students in their school and encourage them to start the empathy convo among their friends, as well.

Better yet? Empower the kids to be a friend to kids with Down syndrome in the neighborhood or say a kind word when they encounter the adults working in their community.

3/21: The day set for World Down Syndrome Day signifies the third copy of the 21st chromosome that makes these kids extra special.
