Does your child ever wonder what really happened to the dinosaurs? They can find out exactly what caused their extinction and the effects it had on the planet at the new Doom of the Dinosaurs exhibit at the Cranbrook Institute of Science in Bloomfield Hills.
This temporary exhibition, which begins on Friday, Feb. 8, 2019 and wraps up on Sunday, Sept. 1, explores the asteroid collision that happened the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico 66 million years ago. This event is largely thought to be responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs – along with 75 percent of all the other life on earth.
Kids will learn how this incident occurred and get information about the other four large-scale extinction events that the planet has endured. They’ll also find out if pollution, ecosystem destruction and other human activity puts us at risk of the same fate.
The Doom of the Dinosaurs exhibit opens on Feb. 8, 2019 at the Cranbrook Institute of Science in Bloomfield Hills and will remain on display until during regular museum hours through Sept. 1.
Museum hours are as follows:
- 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday
- 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday
- 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday
- Noon-4 p.m. Sunday
Admission to the museum is $9.50-$13/person. An additional changing exhibit fee of $6-$8/person is applied to see this exhibit.
Dinosaur-themed planetarium and exploreLAB programming is available at select times throughout the duration of the exhibit.
