‘A Red Ryder Christmas Story’ Exhibit in Plymouth

The museum's exhibit, 'A Red Ryder Christmas Story' is back again this year, and will be featured Nov. 18, 2015-Jan. 17, 2016.

Fans of the classic movie A Christmas Story won’t have to wait for the 24-hour TBS marathon to get fully immersed in their favorite holiday film this year.

The Plymouth Historical Museum will bring the 1983 cult-classic Christmas movie to life with A Red Ryder Christmas Story, an exhibit featured every other year that highlights the film with memorable scenes on display and a local tie-in to the small town’s history.

Opening Nov. 18, the exhibit includes multiple vignettes of movie scenes as interpreted by museum staff. Guests will love seeing popular scenes including the pink bunny suit, the dogs stealing the turkey and the Santa slide. They’ll also recognize the famous leg lamp, which will be prominently displayed in a home window on the museum’s Main Street.

“People love it,” Elizabeth Kerstens, executive director of the Plymouth Historical Museum, says of the A Red Ryder Christmas Story exhibit. “It gets more popular every time we do it.”

Local fans of the film will also be interested to know that the Red Ryder BB gun was originally sold by Daisy Manufacturing Company, which was located in Plymouth. Information about Red Ryder and Daisy will be available at the exhibit.

Exhibit hours are 1-4 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays-Sundays from Nov. 18 until Jan. 17, 2016. The exhibit is closed most holidays. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 6-17. Kids ages 5 and under get in free.

Also mark your calendars for Dec. 5, when the museum will host its annual open house and craft show. Santa will be available to visit with children during the open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, as well as each Saturday Nov. 28 until Dec. 19.
