Kiwi Crate: Kids Crafting Monthly Subscription Projects

When was the last time your family received something fun in the mail? Subscriptions boxes were huge in 2012, from Whimseybox to Birch Box. And now, children have their own option, too: Kiwi Crate.

Kiwi Crate is a monthly, kid-only craft project. Each month promises to bring at least two projects to enjoy, ranging from art and science to imaginative play. You can try it for just one month or sign up for a whole year – no strings attached.

I had the chance to take a peek at the Valentine Kiwi Crate, a smaller crate available in the Celebration Shop for $14.95. The kit contains supplies to make 24 pop-up valentines that are perfect for trading with friends and classmates at school. The crate arrived with not only the card supplies (pre-made pop-up card bases), but also with a full set of markers, a glue stick, glitzy stickers and googly eyes – plus pre-punched die cuts to add to the cards.
The cards were easy to assemble after a review of the process by a grown-up crafter (the kit arrived with an “easy” difficulty level). A full-color step-by-step instruction booklet aided the assembly process.
Also included in the kit were supplies to make your own pop-up card after practicing the assembly technique with the pre-made cards. I loved this idea of taking a new crafty skill forward.
Kiwi Crate gets a thumbs-up from this crafter – and is definitely something I’ll be gifting to the little crafters in my life!
